Some of the biggest cricket fights in cricket history
Cricket is undoubtedly one of the biggest sport in the world. The game of cricket has some of beautiful aspects as other games but the sport couldn't stay away from some of bad incidents as other sports. Here are some of the fights that took place which made cricket notorious.
Singh Slaps Sreeshanth
It was IPL of season 2008 when Harbhajan slapped Sreeshanth after a match between Mumbai Indians and Kings Eleven Punjab.
Harbhajan was captaining Mumbai Indians that season due to injury of Sachin Tendulkar and Sreeshanth was playing for King's Eleven. After the match ended in a loss for Mumbai and playing were meeting for customary hand shakes, Harbhajan slapped Sreeshanth on face in front of everyone. Sreeshanth was seen crying on live TV. Harbhajan was suspended for remainder of that season of IPL. Non of the two players involved talked about that incident later and nobody knew what exactly happened between them.
Sreesanth recently during a popular TV show 'Big Boss' narrated the incident. He was in Big Boss house as a contestant and revealed about the incident during a task. So at least we know his perspective.
Here is what Sreeshanth has to say about it. Mumbai Indians did not started well that season under captaincy of Harbhajan. Mumbai were a fancied side and expected to win more matches. In the match against King's Eleven Punjab they were expected to win. Harbhajan was in more pressure because match was being played at Chandigarh, home ground of Harbhajan. Sreesanth had a good rapport with Harbhajan, playing for India together but Sreesanth said he was continuously irritating Harbhajan by saying something or other just as opponents do. According to Sreeshanth it was just normal thing opponents do to unsettle opposition. He also commented when Harbhajan came in to bat. After the match when two of them faced each other Harbhajan could not hold his anger and according to Sreeshanth did not slap him but hit his face from back side of his fist. Sreesanth, as he said never expected this as Harbhajan and him were good friends and could not think of anything but to cry.
He also revealed that even after the incident they have a good relationship, talk to each other and greet each other.
Hope we will hear from Harbhajan about this incident some day.
The Monkey Gate Incidents:
The incident took place on second test between India vs Australia on 2008. The ‘Monkeygate Scandal’ refers to the verbal altercation between Andrew Symonds and Harbhajan Singh in the second Test between India and Australia in Sydney in 2008, where the off-spinner allegedly hurled a racist abuse at Symonds, referring to him as a ‘Monkey’.
The India bowler was subsequently handed a three-match ban, but the Indian team threatened that they would pull-out of the tour if the ban was not uplifted. After Judge John Hansen heard oral statements from both teams, he dropped the charges on Singh citing that there was lack of evidence for the charges to stick.
Ben Strokes Night Club Incident:
England premiere all rounder had been accused of punching Ryan Hale, 27, to the ground and knocking out Ryan Ali, 28, during an brawl outside a nightclub in Bristol in September last year.
Mr Ali sustained a broken eye socket, fractured tooth, a cut to his eyebrow and bruising to his face during the fracas, while Mr Hale suffered a superficial head wound.
Following a seven-day trial, the jury at Bristol Crown Court took under three hours to acquit Mr Stokes and co-accused Mr Ali of affray.
The Patato Incident:
Gentle giant Inzamam-ul-Haq made it a Sahara Cup to remember – for all the wrong reasons. India won the 1997 Sahara Cup in Toronto 4-1, with Sourav Ganguly taking 15 wickets and scoring 222 runs to win no less than four man-of-the-match awards. But it was what happened in the second match, while India was easily chasing down Pakistan’s total that made the headlines. A spectator of Indian origin used a megaphone to repeatedly taunt and make fun of Inzy, calling him ‘aalu’ (potato) because of his size and gingerly athleticism. Inzy had enough and while fielding at fine leg plowed through the spectators with a bat to reach the abusive spectator and attempted to smash him into pieces. Security intervened, there was a 40-minute delay, where both captains had to intervene and ask the crowd to behave. An enraged Inzy was banned for two matches midway through the series.
